Croton

Croton

Stunning foliage plant with bold, variegated leaves in red, orange, yellow, and green. A tropical statement for any Jamaican garden.

Croton's colourful leaves need bright light to maintain intensity. Low light causes leaves to fade to green. It's a tropical shrub that adds year-round colour without flowers.

Care Tips

  • Sunlight: Bright indirect to full sun (4–6 hours). More light = more colour. In Jamaica, morning sun with afternoon shade prevents leaf burn while keeping colours vivid.
  • Watering: Moderate. Keep soil evenly moist but not soggy. Reduce in winter. Croton drops leaves if too dry.
  • Soil: Well-draining, rich soil. pH 6.0–6.5. Add organic matter. Good drainage essential.
  • Fertilizing: Feed every 4–6 weeks during growing season. Balanced fertilizer. Variegated plants need adequate nitrogen.
  • Pruning: Prune to shape. Remove leggy growth. New growth will be colourful. Wear gloves—sap can irritate.

Jamaica Climate

Thrives in Jamaica's humidity. Protect from intense midday sun—leaves can scorch. Great for containers and borders. Low pest issues. Colours intensify with good light.
