Care Tips
- Sunlight: Full sun (6+ hours). Bananas need maximum light. Tolerates light shade but growth slows.
- Watering: Consistent moisture. Bananas are heavy drinkers. Water regularly—especially during dry season. Mulch to retain moisture.
- Soil: Rich, well-draining, moisture-retentive. pH 5.5–7.0. Add lots of compost and organic matter.
- Fertilizing: Heavy feeder. High potassium and nitrogen. Feed monthly during growing season. Banana-specific fertilizer ideal.
- Pruning: Remove dead leaves. Cut fruited stem to ground after harvest. Keep 2–3 suckers per mat; remove extras.
Jamaica Climate
Thrives in Jamaica. Protect from wind—leaves tear easily. Sigatoka disease can affect leaves; remove infected foliage. Harvest when fingers are rounded and green starts to fade. Ripens off the plant.
