Care Tips

  • Sunlight: Full sun (6+ hours). Citrus needs maximum light. Protect from reflected heat off walls.
  • Watering: Regular, consistent watering. Citrus dislikes wet feet—allow top inch to dry between waterings. Reduce in winter.
  • Soil: Well-draining, slightly acidic (pH 6.0–6.5). Sandy loam ideal. Add compost. Avoid heavy clay.
  • Fertilizing: Citrus fertilizer 3–4 times per year. Higher nitrogen for young trees. Include micronutrients (iron, zinc) if leaves yellow.
  • Pruning: Light pruning to shape and remove dead wood. Avoid heavy pruning—reduces crop. Remove suckers from base.

Jamaica Climate

Thrives in Jamaica. Watch for citrus greening (HLB)—use clean stock. Aphids and scale common; spray with horticultural oil. Fruit year-round. Great for sorrel, drinks, and cooking.
