Peppermint

1,200 JMD

Fresh, aromatic peppermint perfect for teas, desserts, and kitchen use. A beginner-friendly herb that thrives in containers.

Peppermint spreads quickly via runners—grow in a container or use a barrier in the ground to keep it contained. Harvest leaves regularly to encourage bushy growth. The cooling menthol flavour is strongest just before flowering.

Care Tips

  • Sunlight: Partial to full sun (4–6 hours). In Jamaica's heat, morning sun with afternoon shade prevents leaf scorch. Tolerates light shade.
  • Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when top inch feels dry. Mint wilts quickly when thirsty—recovery is fast after watering.
  • Soil: Rich, well-draining soil with organic matter. pH 6.0–7.0. Add compost for nutrients. Avoid heavy clay.
  • Fertilizing: Light feeder. Apply balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during growing season, or top-dress with compost every 2–3 months.
  • Pruning: Pinch tips regularly to encourage branching. Cut back by one-third if it gets leggy. Harvest leaves from the top down.

Jamaica Climate

Thrives in Jamaica's humidity. In rainy season, ensure good drainage to avoid root rot. Grows year-round; protect from intense midday sun in summer.
