Care Tips

  • Sunlight: Full sun (6+ hours). Wax apple needs strong light for flowering and fruiting.
  • Watering: Regular when young. Mature trees need consistent moisture during flowering and fruit development. Tolerates brief dry spells.
  • Soil: Well-draining, rich soil. pH 5.5–6.5. Add compost. Avoid waterlogged sites.
  • Fertilizing: Balanced fertilizer 3–4 times per year. Increase potassium when flowering. Young trees need more nitrogen.
  • Pruning: Prune after harvest to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Remove crowded branches. Can be kept 10–15 feet with pruning.

Jamaica Climate

Well-adapted to Jamaica. Typically fruits late spring and again in fall. Protect from strong winds. Fruit is best when fully coloured—red or pink depending on variety.
